We live in a world swarmed by advertisements. We see it on our Facebook pages, magazines, t-shirts, and even in the sky. No matter where we’re going, there’s always something trying to grab our attention, begging us to absorb, covet, buy, desire. Cultural shifts and popular opinion can render the once seemingly acceptable, completely unacceptable. These advertisements probably were considered benign when they were released, (we doubt any advertising exec wants to be blamed for bad publicity) but today, would cause a backlash of Kendall Jenner-Pepsi-collaboration magnitude. What will the future say of what we currently consider “acceptable”? Time will tell. Until then, let’s take a stroll through some ads that have been rendered a “guilty of cultural insensitivity” verdict.
